Softies Awards entry period has ended

A BIG thanks to everyone who entered the Softie Awards! The entry period is now closed. The judges will be reviewing all the entries and when I have their Top 5 I'll set up the voting site. I'm hoping to get that up by end of the week although the darn day job gets in the way of all my softies work! :-) So it may be next weekend.

We had about 1200 entries this time - so that's a lot of cute photos to look over. Take a peek at them all here.

So if you've entered the Softie Awards, you might be wondering if you have any chance of winning. And the answer is, depending on the category, you may have more or less competition.

SA Update

The Softie Awards are on and there are nearly 200 entries so far! There are lots of entries in the Cutest Face category, but the Picnic Food and Embroidered to Death categories are WIDE open, so if you make food or decorate your softie with some cool stitches, enter them today! Here's the flickr group - 2nd Annual Softie Awards to post to.

Each category will be judged by an experienced crafter who love softies! They are:

Cutest Face - Natalie Zee Drieu/CRAFT Magazine* (Natalie has been a judge for every Softie Awards - thank you Nat! - and is the Honorary Head Judge)

Embroidered to Death - Floresita/Embroidery flickr group, Feeling Stitchy and Things I've Made Flor is one of the busiest bloggers - running the Embroidery group is just the tip of the iceberg. She's the perfect person to judge this category since she sees so much of everyone's work every day and is a beautiful embroiderer herself!

Elephant Tribute - Cal Patch/Hodge Podge Farm - if you don't know Cal or her blog, you're missing out on one of the most original and talented women I know.

Pink or Plaid - Christina Loff/Publicist for all the craft books at Chronicle Books and a talented crafter too. She posts to the Chronicle Books blog as well as her personal one, Borrowed, Bought, Stolen

Picnic Food - Elsa Mora/Elsita blog Elsa is a new judge for the Softie Awards and we're excited to have her on board! She makes softies but if you want to see what a Renaissance artist is doing today, check out her blog. I'm honored to have her on the team!

2nd Annual Softie Awards Opens Today!

They're finally here! The 2nd Annual Softie Awards kicks off today with all NEW, fun categories! So get creative, get sewing and submit a softie. Only original designs please.

The Categories:

PICNIC FOOD - for all the food-loving softie designers and appreciative softie-lovers...enter softie food that you would take to a picnic - hamburgers, hot dogs, pie, soda pop, watermelon, etc. I would love to see a whole picnic basket full of food, or softies arranged on a checkered tablecloth. Keep in mind that creatively styled photos often help engage the viewer (and judge).

ELEPHANT TRIBUTE - a few weeks ago, I posted about the first EVER softie, which was an elephant made by Margarete Stieff. Re-read the post here. So in a tribute to the softie that started it all, this category is for Elephants only.

CUTEST FACE - as we all know, softies have the cutest faces and here's your chance to pit one against another. Think Cute Overload but for softies. This is a wide-open category but the key is to make the face as cute as possible. It will be hard picking 5 finalists I'm sure, but we'll give it a go!

PINK OR PLAID - If you're a regular reader here, you'll know I often do posts of pink softies. I like plaid too. So this category is for pink softies or plaid softies or pink plaid softies would be perfect! Your softie may have some other coloring to it, but it should be mostly pink or mostly plaid - at least 75%.

EMBROIDERED TO DEATH - Embroidery is the new black this season and I wanted to give all the talented embroiderers another showcase here. For inspiration see Foresita's Embroidery Group on flickr and follow the links to her blog too. Your softie must have embroidery as a design element, so if you do a blanket stitch to close a seam, that's probably not going to be enough. Let's see some extra floss and beautiful stitching please!

How to Enter:

It's easy! Just add the photo of your softie to the 2nd Annual Softie Awards flickr group with the appropriate TAG. YOU MUST put the following tags on your photos - photos in the group without the proper tag will be deleted.

Important Dates

The 2nd Annual Softie Awards opens April 1st for entries. You've got about 3 weeks to enter - your entry must be posted to the flickr group by midnight on  FRIDAY APRIL 18th.

Top 5 finalists will be announced the following week and voting will open after that - exact dates and links to the voting page will be posted here on Softies Central and on the 2nd Annual Softie Awards flickr group page.
