Some elephants and a mouse

Did you know that the very first softie EVER was an elephant pincushion made by Margaret Steiff in Germany as a Christmas present? She subsequently founded the Steiff company, made famous by their wonderful teddy bears. There's a photo of that first elephant at the bottom of this post.

That is so great to know! I think that all softie-makers must design an elephant as a tribute to this first softie ever!
