Update on Nathalie Lete

Nathalie Lete is a product designer and artist who lives in Paris. I've featured her work before and thank goodness she keeps me on her email list 'cause her newest work is adorablissimo! And if you will be in Paris this coming weekend, she'll be at the Maison & Object show Jan. 25 - 29 with her newest rugs. Here's some of her fanciful designs. Anyone for getting a group rate on a trip to La Belle France to see Nathalie and her beautiful things????

Made in France Softies

Marcel

When I win the lottery, I'm going to live in France. Until that happens, I'll just have to feature some actual made-in-France softies. Marcel the French wrestling guy above by emmachoc. Btw, 'softie' in French is 'les doudou'. Thanks to Natalie's French husband for confirming that for us!

New Ceramic Beauties fr Nathalie Lete

Nathalie

These gorgeous plates are on exibit at Astier De Villatte, a store in Paris beginning today, January 27th. Created by Nathalie Lete, who I posted about Jan 8th. I'm running out of fabulous adjectives to describe her art - all I can say is I hope more of her work becomes available online or in a store near me! Asteier De Vilatte has a very cool web site and an 'in English' option.

Nathalie Lete

Rabbit_acrylic_on_glass

Today I'm featuring the work of Nathalie Lete, a French woman who seems to have no end of talent in design. This picture entitled "Mon JoJo" is of a rabbit painted with acrylic on glass. The photos below are just a sampling of her work which includes books, clothing, jewelry, ceramics, rugs and more. Her pieces are for sale in various stores in the U.S. but not so easy to find. A trip to Paris might be in order...(I wish!).

The bear is acrylic and pearls embroidered on a postcard - amazing.

French Softies - Oh La La!

Angora_amigurumi_1

You can tell this little guy is French because of the blue purple beret on his head. This angora amigurumi is by a French woman named Ketty Sean who is a phd student at the Sorbonne in Paris specializing in Art Toys - at least that's what I think it says here in French. Where do I sign up for that?! Classes in Paris? Classes about softies? I could do a thesis on the emerging trend of bunnies and bears....needle felted vs. stuffed...buttons for eyes vs. plastic eyes with washers...I tease, but I'm sure there are serious lectures and intellectual concepts being discussed over a cafe au lait on the Left Bank as we speak. Seriously, I would love to move to Paris and study toys. If anyone knows about any tuition grants for that, please let me know! :-)

The amigurumi above and the softies that follow are all for sale on French Touche along with lots of other handmade things including jewelry and accessories. You can click on an icon for the page to translate to English but it mostly just translates the words 'buy online'. They ship all over the world and have a link to a currency calculator (the prices are given in euros). For example, this amigurumi is 38 euros which is about $50.US.

More cute French softies below. The man key ring and doll key rings are really interesting and about 18 euros each.

Ok, definitely not a softie, but I loved this Japanese lamp  - it's 72 euros.

Friday 5's - Marie Claire Idees

Stars_1

Marie Claire Idees must be the Martha of France - the projects are imaginative and span the gamut of everything from scrap-booking to softie-making. Wonderful! Plus they put all the project directions and patterns at the back of the magazine. Ok, it's all in French but I knew those years of language class would come in handy. I can sorta read some-to-most of the projects - but probably need to invest in a really good Petit Larousse to make sure I'm not knitting when I should be purling.

Here's a few projects in their current Hiver 2006 (Winter) issue:

Softie bear and knitted clothing

Bear_softie_2_1

More softies - these with wired arms and legs wrapped in cloth to make them pose-able. All made with recycled fabric remnants. The bag on the right they say is 'hippie chic' whose originality comes from the teeny hearts and fabric scraps and buttons.

Softie

So lovely - the bird swing and branch on the left . The bird is made with papier mache over polystyrene balls, and a real branch is hung underneath. The blanket on the right - love it! - is a military blanket with velvet appliques, metallic floss and fancy paillettes - is there an English word for that? little sparkly things? just paillettes I think...

.Bird_and_divan

An advent calendar with charming 'decembre', lettered with one side of a pair of embroidery scissors to make the 'd', and pearls and buttons to make the rest of the letters. The 'mb' is cut from a recycled monogram. MCI says this is the most charming of all advent calendars - I tend to agree.

Advent_calendar

100 pictures of handmade handbags from people who attended MCI's craft workshop this past October. I would love to win the sweepstakes to attend next year's event. These purses are as beautiful as they are diverse.

Handbags

Ok, this is not a picture from the magazine - it's my cat Mabel, who has always had a rather French attitude towards life. I think when I'm not home she sits around with her legs crossed and a cigarette in her paw....I'll have to get one of those nanny-cams to try and find her out.
