A little bit about the SA judges
I'm really excited to have such a great group of judges for The Softie Awards! They are all artists themselves, have a great eye for original design, and they know a lot about softies. Here's a little bit about about three of them....
Lena Corwin is a New York-based illustrator and textile designer. She illustrated one of my favorite books, "Kids Crochet" and she is also a guest blogger on Design*Sponge. Lena sells some of her pieces in her shop here. Check out her blog for her interesting textile finds and previews of her work. And because we all like looking at people's photos, her flickr pool is here. Lena is judging the Best Holiday category. Here's one of the beautiful textile patterns she created:
Jenn Docherty is a softie-maker extraordinaire. She makes the most wonderful needle felted bears, bird, bunnies and more...teeny tiny creatures that are generally standing on their own little pedestal. Her work is really meticulous and completely charming. I think she sells out each new batch really quickly so you have to get on her mailing list to have any chance. :-). Her blog is here. Jenn is judging the Best Rest of the Animal Kingdom category. Here's one of her adorable creatures:
Natalie Zee Drieu is the Associate Editor of CRAFT. That magazine is the most chock-full thing I've ever seen, and combined with their blog, there's literally hundreds (thousands?) of projects and bits of information if you're into anything crafty at all! I don't know how Nat and the team at CRAFT and sister pub MAKE do it - they seem to have quite an encyclopedic understanding of so many different types of crafts. It's amazing, and possibly the most fun job of all. CRAFT's next issue is due out in April and will focus on Japanese crafts. I can't wait to get my hands on that! Natalie is judging the Best Inanimate Object category. Here's the current issue on newstands:
